Holiday Traditions + A Giveaway!!

I don't know about all of you, but Christmas, to me, is the best time of the year. Yes, it can be a crazy busy time (especially with the husband gone) but it is just such a magical time of year.  Being a military family and living away from home it seems as though every Christmas is spent differently. With the kids getting older, it's been more and more important to me to set up some traditions so that they can pass them down to their families. I'm sure that as the kids get older and are able to do more our traditions will change but as of now this is what we do yearly. Here are our traditions:

1. Advent Calendar
2. Making Christmas Cookies and delivering to our friends and neighbors
3. Watching and reading as many Christmas stories and movies
4. Going to look at Christmas lights
5. White Elephant Exchanges
6. Opening presents on Christmas Eve with my parents and Christmas Day with Brian's family
7. Giving back in some way whether it be donating our time, money, or goods

When Hickory Farms contacted me to do a review and a giveaway of their Party Planner Gift Box, I jumped at the chance. I remember as a child going out to buy friends and family members Hickory Farms boxes as Christmas gifts year after year. And not only does it remind me of my childhood but my husband is obsessed with their summer sausage and he pretty much eats it any chance he can get!

Here's the gift box I was sent.

Included in it was: two beef summer sausages, a turkey summer sausage, smoked cheddar cheese, farmhouse cheddar cheese, creamy swiss cheese, smoked gouda cheese, nuts, sweet hot mustard, and cranberry mustard. YUM.  Everything was absolutely delicious in this pack. I brought it with to our cookie exchange the other night and everyone raved about it and it was gone pretty much instantly. It makes a great hostess gift, a gift for family or friends or just a great array of foods for a party tray at your home.

Hickory Farms is a great American company that highly values traditions and gives back with their No Kid Hungry Campaign.  For every Party Planner Gift Box sold, they donate $5 to their campaign. So not only are you getting a great product but you're giving back as well!

And Hickory Farms was gracious enough to give one of my readers their very own Party Planner Gift Box!  Enter here (US residents only please):

So if you're still trying to think of a good gift to get that special person on your list, send them a Hickory Farms gift box, you can't go wrong!

I was given this product to review by Hickory Farms but all opinions are my own.

I guess our one tradition is to do Christmas on Christmas Eve so the extended family members can do a second Christmas on Christmas Day! It's always worked out for everyone.

That's so awesome of them to do a give away with you! The girls in my family have always tried to do a get together each Christmas. It started as a cookie exchange and now we go to a local Tea House for a delicious meal and gift exchange! We have Christmas Eve dinner at my aunt and uncle's house, and on Christmas morning, I still get up and go to my parents' house in my PJs to have breakfast and open gifts (Scott almost always has to work). Then my extended family comes over for dinner.

Oooh, that box looks so yummy! Lucky girl! :) We are having fun starting our own family traditions, too! The night we put up the christmas tree, we give the kids an ornament that commemorates a vacation or something meaningful from that year. We then have a picnic dinner in the dark under the tree! After dinner, open another package with christmas pj's. We all put on our pj, pop popcorn and watch the polar express. This was the 2nd year we've done this and B remembered it from last year! We also took the kids shopping for each other as well as for a child from a giving tree. They love their countdown calendar and advent candle wreath. Such a magical time of year! (And our christmas light walk!!! ;)
