Our Weekend: Atlanta!

I'm writing to you from rainy, wet thunderstorming Montgomery, AL. It's only been day 2 of the rain but we're kinda over it.  Anyway, we had a pretty great weekend!  Friday night we met up with some friends at a restaurant called The Tipping Point. It's awesome because you eat outside on picnic tables and the kids are encouraged, yes encouraged to run around. They even have a man-made hill for kids to climb. They have a pretty great food and beer menu and it's a win-win for everyone. It was our second time there that week. Ooops.

Saturday morning we left bright and early for a day trip to Atlanta.
Yep, even the dog came.

After only 2 hours, we made it to ATL!

We decided to do something a little off the beaten path so we decided to go hiking here.

The second I started snapping pictures, "MOMMY! I NEED TO GO POTTY!" Of course.

After a quick lunch we headed out to the trails.

Pretty sure 1800 people passed us with how slow we were going.

"Are you guys coming?" Sheesh. Brady was the "line leader" 98% of the time and probably could have ran up if had we let him.

And Layla was either carried, walked slowly while grunting, or stopped to point out every single rock.

We just kept climbing and climbing.

And we finally made it to the top! Layla was thrilled.

No, no, no Mom, you're doing it all wrong. Snack first,

then picture! Duh!

We probably spent just as much time on the top as we did climbing up it.

My sweet little ones and I

We decided to take the road on the way down because the trail was just a little too steep but little did I know that the road was a tiny windy road with no guardrails and pretty much just straight drop offs.

Enough to give me a heart attack.

Especially since they both decided they needed to run down the whole way. I couldn't take pictures of the parts with the huge drop offs. It probably would have given me a panic attack.

And this is what Layla thinks of authority and being told what to do. (If you can't tell that sign says pedestrians, that way)

And this is what the majority of the rest of the hike looked like.

But we made it and it was pretty beautiful!

Layla lying to people that she walked the whole way.

Thumbs up for climbing that mountain!

The kids passed out pretty much instantly so we drove around downtown ATL while they slept. There must have been a festival or maybe I'm just naive but parking was $20 everywhere. Yeah, no thanks.

After naps we decided to eat at a Chick-Fil-A and accidentally came to this one. The place where the Chick-fil-A chicken was invented. Just hanging out with Mr. Cathy.

The kids loved the Dwarf House door. I mean, loved it. It wasn't in the best of neighborhoods though so we quickly ate and got back on the road.

"Take a picture of me Mommy. I'll actually be smiling."

We stopped in Auburn on the way home for some much deserved ice cream.

And then drove through the Auburn campus a little. This beautiful picture is my attempt at taking a stadium shot.

After we got home it was time for bed and we seriously passed out.

Sunday was a rainy, rainy day which was a bummer. We made it a stay in your jammies, do crafts, and watch movies kind of day.

And we also headed to Maxwell AFB and checked out their library. This was in the children's room, a cool reading tree that the kids loved.  After that we rented Frozen, did some more crafting, put the kids to bed early, and had a nice evening just Brian and I.  Now if we could just get all of this rain to go away we'd be golden!  Have a great week! :)

Wowzers that hike! Layla cracks me up in every post. So glad you got to stop through Auburn. Hopefully you can go back during the daylight hours and I can give you a list of places to go (and eat). :) I'm really glad you're making the most of your time in the South!
