Weekend Recap: Grandparents Are Great Things!

My parents visited this past weekend and it was the. best. thing. ever!  I love seeing my parents but seeing Brady and Layla light up and love their time with them makes every visit so special.

Brady and Grampa built lots of towers and played lots of trains. He was really needing some male bonding time this weekend and he had so much fun.

Layla got to look at a catalog Gramma brought over and over. She picked all of her Christmas gifts. Don't tell Daddy, but one was a man in his underwear.

We took Gramma to our local fall festival (kind of a bust, therefore no pictures) and for some playtime at the library.

Best part was I got to sneak out Saturday afternoon and go to the squadron spouse's social. We toured a local bakery, Jones Bros Cupcakes They've been on Cupcake Wars and won tons of awards. They're pretty awesome and it was fun to see some behind the scenes action!

Not only do they make delicious cupcakes but they make cookies..

and delicious chocolates among other things.

Our tour guide gave us a lesson on how to frost cupcakes

Here he decorated a cupcake with our squadron's logo..a raven.

Here were the other ones he decorated...

and here's mine. I left them my phone number because this is probably one of the most beautifully decorated cupcakes they've ever seen. This started out as just a normal cupcake and then turned into a Vikings cupcake because a) The tips on they yellow and the purple were easiest to use and b) I am not creative at all and this was all that came to mind. And no, the Vikings weren't even playing that day. You can't always explain art.

Here's the ladies with their decorated cupcakes.

Gramma with her little loves

And a picture Brady took of us. Layla was thrilled

The kids of course got sick this weekend because what would a trip be without infecting them a little?

But overall we had a good time with them. They let me get out whenever I wanted to get a break, get errands done, run a mile or two, and just to help me out.

Grandparents...they are a wonderful thing.

I love when my parents come to visit! They are always such a big help - always helping with laundry, dishes, random projects, etc. Plus, the kids LOVE having them visit.

And just on a side note - watch the mega blocks table. Charlotte crawled on top of ours when she was about 1 1/2 and got her leg caught inside the handle. I used butter, soap, olive oil, pretty much anything I could get think of trying to get her leg unstuck. I was almost to the point of calling the fire department because I was worried about circulation, but I finally got her leg loose. We promptly got rid of the table. I called mega blocks customer service to let them know of the issue, but I don't know if they changed the design of the tables or not.

Yay for grandparent time!! I think you should be next on Cupcake Wars. You frosted the thing with a TIP! Not a butter knife, a TIP! (I clearly frost with a butter knife, if I happen to not eat all the frosting before getting it on the cupcakes.)

HA!! A man in his underwear!! She's starting a little young, don't you think? ;)

I like your cupcake. At least it's clearly a V. I once decorated a cupcake with blue frosting and a funky tip and the whole thing looked like a close up of Cookie Monster's arm. Real sophisticated.
