We Made it to Alabama!

Friday morning we worked our tails off to finish packing and cleaning the house and finally by 10:00am we were ready to lock the doors and bid farwell to the first home we ever owned.  Brian and I both stayed up until 2 am and were up by 6 am to finish cleaning. Nothing like starting off a long drive with just 4 hours of sleep!

The car was PACKED. And I mean stuffed to the brim. Not just our car but Brian's car too. It was craziness.

We tried our best to drive in 2-3 hour increments and made sure we took lots of breaks for everyone to stretch their legs.

I think this was in Missouri somewhere?

Layla was beyond thrilled to have a Subway sandwich and some chippies.

After driving for 11 hours we finally reached our hotel in Metropolis, IL. Also known as Superman's hometown but we had no time to go see anything.

Because we had two little ones who did not nap and two parents who were pretty exhausted

No, no not tired at all.  After getting a decent amount of sleep we got back on the road.

Our first stop was Nashville. Neither one of us had been there so when we said we wanted to stop somewhere there we were both like where do we stop? Ummmm Grand Ole Opry? Yeah ok sure.

The kids thought the giant guitars were pretty neat

And Rascal thought the grass there looked like a great place to take a dump.

It was a pretty fun stop! And they had a huge mall right next to it so we walked around for a little while, grabbed some lunch, and got back on the road.

Not long after we made it to Alabama!!

Unfortunately we hit some pretty bad traffic after we got through Birmingham.  They closed down 3 lanes out of 4 With the spring break traffic along with normal traffic that was a lot of fun. We were stuck in it for over an hour.

Buuuut lucky me, I was in the car with Rascal and Brian was in the car with the kids! Heehee!  Layla was ready to pull out her hair.

We were at such a standstill that Brian took out the camera and started taking pictures. Yeah we were that bored.  I had my window rolled down and was enjoying the 83 degree weather, sun, and some great music so I didn't mind too much.

After we made it through the traffic we stopped for a potty break, some ice cream, and Layla enjoyed stalking "bugs" aka ants.

After 16 hours in the car over 2 days, through 7 states (Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama) we made it!! And our apartment backs up to a pretty pond which thrills the kids.

Besides a little rain the weather has been great and we've spent a ton of time outside.

And the pool has palm trees! Can't wait till it warms up and we can spend time at the pool!

The kids are sharing a room for the first time and it's been a little interesting. We have to go in several times to tell them to stop giggling and to go to bed. Otherwise though it's been going pretty well. Layla has demanded to sleep in the big girl bed and not the pack and play and it's been nerve wracking for me but she's determined to sleep like her brother. But with her butt up in the air.

My wine made it to Alabama too so I had a glass or two to celebrate making it here. Annnnd I didn't pack my wine glasses and can't find the red solo cups so I'm drinking it out of a water glass instead.  Whatever!

We're looking forward to the fun times ahead! Now just send our house good selling vibes as it's on the market today! :)

Praying your house sells quickly! I have no clue how you managed to drive anywhere on 4 hours of sleep, but thank God Brian had the kids during the traffic jam. My older brother lives in Birmingham and the traffic there is always horrific. Glad you made it to Montgomery safely! Enjoy the warm weather! I'm going to get really jealous once you start posting beach pics. ;)

Overall - that seemed to be a good experience driving so far with little ones and a pet! Good luck with the new location and here's hoping you guys will be able to use the pool sooner than later!

Glad you guys made it safely! And that the wine made it undamaged! My two big kids have shared a room the past two years. There are nights that I love it, and nights that I want to pull my hair out!
