Parent's Weekend!

Parent's Weekend at the Air Force Academy is a big deal.  It's held on Labor Day weekend and it gives cadets a chance to show their parents what they've been up to, especially for the freshman (4 degrees).
Brian and his parents (and the Falcon) at Parent's Weekend in 2007.

Brian and I in 2007 at Parent's Weekend.

It just so happened to work out that my parents were able to come out Labor Day weekend and got to partake in a few Parent's Weekend activities!

At the Denver airport veerrry early in the morning on Thursday. So happy to see her Grampa again!

Brady and Gramma at the airport. They're here!

We went home and rested since it was such an early day for us all.

In the evening Brian and my dad went to Brian's flag football game while we went to our homeowner's association's ice cream social.  Layla wasn't thrilled with her free ice cream. Princess.

Friday morning we got up and headed to the Air Force Academy.

We even got to see Brian fly! He's in the white glider behind the yellow tow plane.

My mom and I at Brian's squadron

My parents :)

After Brian got done flying we got to go see some of the static displays. Here he's showing everyone the gliders.

Even got my dad in a glider!

"Mom, leave us alone, we're flying."

In the jump plane

Watching planes take off with the jumpers

A hanger full of gliders

Saturday night my parents graciously let us have a date night so we went to the Golden Bee at the Broadmoor Hotel.
We ordered their famous "yard of beer"

I was scared I was going to break it so I gave Brian the task of finishing it.

Saturday morning we headed back up to the Academy for the football game tailgate.
The cutest little Falcon fans!

Our friends son had the same jersey but we couldn't get the 3 of them to pose together for anything...this was the best one, haha!

After hanging out by our car for a little while we headed to the flying squadrons' tailgate

I tried getting a picture of some of the ladies in the squadron..and a pasta lid flew in the wind onto us and Brian caught it on camera, haha!

Here's a better one...besides the photobomb by the casual lieutenant.

My mom and the kids headed back to the house and the rest of us headed to the game.

Brian and my dad

The Falcons ended up beating Nichols State by quite a bit. It was a fun (but really hot) game. I hadn't been to a game since 2007 so it was a ton of fun being back!

Afterwards we had a bbq at our house to celebrate the Falcons victory.

And I was the genius buying hot pink cupcakes...

I'll post the rest of our weekend in my next post!

Boulder my Boulder

Sadly, the other weekend Brian's grandparents had a visit planned but Brian's grandfather fell ill so they weren't able to travel.  He's doing much better now so we hope we can see them soon!  Since our weekend plans changed we decided to head up to Boulder, Colorado. I'd never been before and was really anxious to see it because I'd heard it was beautiful and fun.
Our first stop was Chautauqua Park and it did not disappoint in the views department.

I had run 3.5 miles that morning but figured a hike, hey why not?

It was tough!  So I made them all stop and take some pictures.

I mean the posing, where is this coming from?!

The Flatirons are beautiful!

The view from the hike

Brian and Brady wanted to run ahead but Little Miss Princess couldn't bear to walk so she sat on a log and clapped her hands instead.

Saved by her prince!

After the hike we headed to the Celestial Seasonings factory.

My favorite picture. It's kind of a lie, we didn't take the tour (it was only for kids 5+) but we did taste some tea!

They thought most of it was "yucky!" but they liked it once I put some sugar in there.

It started POURING while we were there.

Our next stop was Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder. The clouds starting parting so we decided to try it out.

It was really pretty. And there were lots of touristy and lots of very weird people there.

We walked around a lot, stopped at Caribou Coffee (my Minnesota favorite!), watched some street performers, and dodged the tons of "sign up for world peace" lobbyists.

And we had to climb on some boulders while in Boulder. Because, of course.

Boulder is a ton of fun and we will definitely make another trip up there!
